Meet our Honduran Hero, Gisela Amaya!

Dr. Gisela Amaya

Acts 20:35

"In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

Milk and Honey missions would like to introduce you to Dr. Gisela Amaya, our Honduran Hero!

1.Tell us about yourself and your family?

"My name is Gisela Amaya, I am 33 years old, and I live in Villa San Antonio, Comayagua, a place which is right in the heart of Central America. I'm the third of four children. I am married and am the mother of a son, whose name is Samuel. The greatest achievement in my life is to be a child of God, and I walk with Christ under the blessings of Linaje Escogido Ministry."

2. Why did you become a Doctor?

"It was always my dream since I was a little girl. When I was 4-5 years old, I used to play pretending I was healing dolls and taking care of other little girls. I think it was already in God's design for my life, to give me the privilege of serving others through medicine.

In the midst of many experiences that caused an impression in my life and showed me the immense power of the Lord Jesus Christ, in the midst of difficult circumstances, sicknesses, social problems, and pain, my main motivation was to study medicine and be that instrument of God to contribute not only physical health but also spiritual health to many needy people. So, at the age of 17 I decided to begin an adventure that would last my whole life, that is to study medicine.

In my country it's very expensive to study medicine and takes a long time. I remember one day while I was in high school, I looked up information on how to get a scholarship. I took aptitude tests and lots of other exams, and one day they called me from the Cuban Embassy, to tell me that I had been selected to study medicine in that country. So I traveled to Cuba and lived 7 years on that island. I had a lot of difficulties, far away from my family, adjusting to another culture, and with very limited resources, but my passion to fulfill my dream was stronger than any circumstance. God was always with me, and I graduated as a general M.D. when I was 24. I came home to my country even more passionate than when I had started."

3. Why did you decide to practice medicine in La Villa?

"God predestined me to be born in La Villa, it's my favorite place. That's why the biggest opportunity for me to be a blessing in my hometown, is serving its people through medicine. La Villa is a place where not everyone has access to health services, and part of the population is disadvantaged for lack of economic resources, and are not able to seek private medical attention. That's why I decided to exercise my profession in this place because there's so much need. Now people call me "The Town Doctor" and that makes me feel so blessed."

4. How is the Lord using you in your medical practice?

"I've been working in Samuel Medical Clinic for five years, where we offer medical attention completely free to 120 impoverished families, give free medical attention to all of God's Ministers from the community, and carry out free medical brigades in different villages in the surrounding area. Our objective is to not only provide physical health, but also counseling, prayer, and words of encouragement to whoever needs it. This is the way we have seen God's hand at work in many people, witnessing the majestic power of God.

During this time that we've been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of families suffering from this sickness has tripled, and God has allowed us to give them personalized medical attention in their homes. In this way God has brought hope and strength in the middle of their suffering. The work has doubled for me, but God has also doubled my strength, and He has taken away my fears and has kept me in the hollow of his hand. Each day has been a miracle - I wake up, put on my white robe, and fulfill what God has entrusted me."

5. How can we continue to pray for you?

"My petition is always that God's presence is over my life. That the most excellent Doctor, who's name is Jesus, always be my way, and that the Holy Spirit guide me so my service can reflect the immense love of the Father."
